Steel Drums

The Hammer Heads Steel Drum Ensemble is dedicated to enriching its students’ liberal arts education by challenging them with a musical instrument and culture outside of their normal experience. Throughout the year the HammerHeads perform frequent concerts and can be heard performing at a variety of events in the community. Their repertoire reflects the diverse repertoire being played on pan today, including soca, calypso, reggae, classical, jazz, R&B, and pop.

This percussion ensemble introduces students to both Steel Drums from the islands of Trinidad and Tobago and traditional percussion ensemble instruments as well. This is a performance ensemble and includes several after school rehearsals and many public and school performances, as well as performances at semester end Winter and Spring Concerts. Students will combine with the Concert Band and Wind Ensembles for several performances as well performing on more traditional instruments. This class is open to all students with a strong desire to learn the Steel Drum. Previous music experience very helpful but not required. See Mr. Brooker if you are interested in joining this group.

The HammerHeads raise money for their operating expenses by playing for parties and events in the community. If you would like the HammerHeads to play at your next event, please visit the contact page.
